ABOUT

Lana Crowster is a singer, song-writer, producer, band leader, lecturer, music educator & consultant from Cape Town, South Africa.  Lana started singing at the age of 2 and began her career in performance at the tender age of 6. Armed with a Bachelors Degree in Music and a Post Graduate Diploma in Jazz Performance from The University of Cape Town, Lana is one of South Africa’s most sought after creatives. As such, Lana has been awarded the top prize in The 2021 Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans category for Arts, Entertainment, Film and Media.

From international performances, television & studio recordings, featuring in the first season of The Voice South Africa as well as winning the top prize of performing at The 2016 Cape Town International Jazz Festival in the ESP Afrika Young Legends Competition, Lana’s versatility as an artist is as consistent as it is enthralling. With a career already spanning almost 20 years - and which includes sharing stages with local and international artists such as Josh Groban, George Benson, Karen Zoid, Toya Delazy, Arno Carstens, Zaki Ibrahim and many more - this vocal powerhouse has already proven that her creative skills extend far beyond the stage.  In 2018, in support of the #MeToo movement, Lana founded South Africa’s first all women 20-piece band, The Lady Day Big Band, which was created with the aim of social upliftment through music and the normalisation of the woman musician.

In 2020, Lana released her debut album  “Subconscious”  independently through her label, Crows Nest Productions, thus adding to an already stellar discography of solo and collaborative projects.

Currently based in New York City, USA as she pursues her Masters in Music Business degree at New York University's Steinhardt School for Culture, Education & Human Development, Lana continues to be an advocate for music entrepreneurship, education and the advancement of women musicians.
